Are you afraid of the dentist?
You’ve come to the right place.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone, there are many others like you who suffer from dental anxiety. Which is why at AMK Dental Clinic we offer sedation dentistry to help you feel relaxed and calm throughout the duration of your treatment.

What is sedation dentistry?

There are many people who suffer from dental anxiety, and are unable to undergo treatments on their teeth because of this nervousness. Sedation dentistry helps to relax patients and make them feel more comfortable throughout their treatment.

There are many reasons why a patient might benefit from sedation dentistry:

  • You have specific anxiety towards a particular treatment or procedure, for instance needles.
  • You would like a little bit of help to feel more relaxed throughout your treatment.
  • You suffer from that nervous ‘gut feeling’ and sedation would help to eliminate it.
  • You’d prefer not to be aware of what’s happening throughout your procedure.

Whatever your motivation, at AMK Dental Clinic we understand that for many patients, anxiety can be a deciding factor in whether to undergo treatment.

We offer two types of sedation at AMK Dental Clinic

Light sedation is the most common type of sedation used in dentistry. It is very safe and has almost no side effects. It is administered either through the inhalation of Nitrous Oxide Gas, more commonly known as laughing gas, or through oral sedatives.  The effects of inhalation sedation can be felt quite quickly and will help you to relax and feel comfortable throughout your treatment.

Oral sedatives are to be taken one hour before your appointment and this will help you to feel relaxed throughout your procedure, however you will still be capable of responding to instructions. You'll need to organise for somebody to drive you home after you take an oral sedative as you will not be able to drive. Dr Khalessi himself will be able to administer both types of sedation before your treatment begins.

Heavy sedation is administered through an IV by our specialist Dr Ramy Mezrani. This is offered to patients who suffer from extreme dental phobia or are undergoing a more serious procedure. When undergoing IV sedation, patients usually describe having virtually no memory of the procedure once it’s over. Should you require IV sedation, AMK Dental Clinic will need approximately 2-3 weeks to arrange your appointment.

If you suffer from dental anxiety, your consultation or check-up appointments are a good opportunity to explain and discuss this with your dentist so that they can determine which type of sedation will be right for you.

Whatever your concern, the team at AMK Dental Centre will be understanding and considerate of your needs. Don’t put your dental health aside any longer, contact us to arrange and appointment and we’ll find a way that’s comfortable for you.
